‘Serverless computing’ is an advance on the ‘Infrastructure as a Service’ paradigm where you create the functions and functionality required for your business need (‘Functions as a Service’) and leave the underlying hardware details to the Cloud provider. This approach entered the mainstream a few years ago through products such as AWS Lambda and has gathered a lot of attention since then but it’s quite a change from ‘the way things have always been done’. BioTeam’s Karl Gutwin gives his opinion on how this new approach has made a difference to his work.
